Skiing and snowshoeing in Taivalkoski is a true delight!
The Taivalvaara Fell in Taivalkoski provides excellent skiing opportunities. The well-maintained trails and tracks and diverse terrain invite skiers to enjoy the fantastic snowscapes offered in Taivalkoski.
The season in the Koillismaa area is generally long: the first snowfall comes already in early November and the snow hangs around until late April.
In the village Taivalkoski:
- Cross-country tracks of Taivalvaara (Start near Ski Resort/Cafeteria):
6.5 km (lighted), 15 km & 25 km
5 km, 7.5 km and 10 km competitive tracks (regularly maintained only during competitions).
There are also other longer trails through the spring snowscape.

- Cross-country tracks of Saija: 4-10km tracks of traditional cross-country skiing. Free use for everybody.
- Snow-shoeing on the Simosenpolkku-trail. Start near the bridge of Jokijärvi or at the lodge Saija.
In Kylmäluoma (Recreational Center):
- Cross-country tracks of Kylmäluoma: 4-9 km traditinal skiing and 6 km skating. Free use for everybody.

The info center of the national park Syöte is after 16.2.14 open every day from 10-17
Beautiful cross-country tracks, snow-shoeing trails and a winter walking trail are also available in the National Park of Syöte (best is to start from the visitor center).

From the parking area of the visitor center Syöte start two snowshoe trails Map (pdf):
- Naavaparran polku 3 km (easy trail, leave-shape markings)
- Teerivaaran kierros 3,3km. (half-demanding trail with big altitude differences, marked with sticks)
- To the direction of Anninkoski there is a winter hiking path of about 3km
The skiing and snowshoeing possibilities outside of the established trails are endless.
