Villa Salme – A Well-Equipped Log Cabin by Lake Jokijärvi, Taivalkoski
Villa Salme is a well-equipped 42 m² log cabin located in the scenic cultural landscape of Jokijärvi, Taivalkoski – the childhood home of Finnish author Professor Kalle Päätalo. The cabin accommodates 4 guests, with an additional summer-use attic room that sleeps 2 more.
The cabin features a combined living room and kitchen with a sofa bed, one bedroom, indoor toilet, shower, sauna (electric stove), and a heat-retaining fireplace. Equipment includes: dishwasher, fridge-freezer, electric stove, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, microwave, vacuum cleaner, washing machine, iron, radio, TV, and DVD player. A highchair and travel cot are available for families with small children.
Rental includes access to an Indian canoe, a rowing boat, a lakeside grill hut, and firewood. Additional rental options include a single kayak, two mountain bikes, and two SUP boards.
The south-facing shore is sandy and shallow – ideal for swimming. The nearest neighbor (the owner) lives approximately 50 meters away.
The beautiful lake landscape invites you to explore by water. From the cabin’s private shoreline, it’s easy to embark on a paddling or rowing trip along the Iijoki River all the way to Taivalkoski, or head toward the Murhijoki or Tyräjoki rivers and on to Tyräjärvi or even Lake Koviojärvi. Excellent berry and mushroom foraging areas are right at your doorstep.
Villa Salme is also an excellent base for anglers and hunters. Great fishing spots can be found within the local Jokijärvi fishing cooperative’s waters and along the Iijoki rapids. Fishing permits for Jokijärvi can be purchased directly from the owner.
Kallioniemi, the museum home of author Kalle Päätalo, is located on the southern shore of Jokijärvi, about 3 km by boat from the cabin.
