At Taivalkoski, there are grocery stores as well as specialty stores (e.g. for buying clothing and souvenirs). There are village shops in Metsäkylä and Tyrävaara. The oldest still operating shop in Finland, Jalava Store, is located in the centre of Taivalkoski.
